Sinks

Undermount sinks sit below the benchtop for a clean edge and easy wiping; topmount sinks drop in from above and suit laminate tops.

What works

Undermount

Needs a stone, porcelain or solid surface top. The stone fabricator needs the sink (or its template) before cutting.

Topmount

The rim sits on the bench. Cheaper, and the only choice on most laminate.

1 and 3/4 bowl

The most popular layout: a big bowl and a smaller prep bowl.

Butler

A deep farmhouse style sink with an exposed front, set into a cabinet made for it.

Before you buy: The sink size sets the cabinet below it: check the minimum cabinet width in the spec sheet, and leave room for the waste, the tap bodies and any boiling tap unit.
